CAMPING IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Sanctuary House launched its latest initiative in collaboration with THE GREAT OUTDOORS.  The vision is to allow children to experience outdoor life . Most children living in the cities live a very sheltered life. We plan to allow them to come with their parents and spend two days onsite. They would live in tents on our new island, learn to light a fire, how to cook on an open fire,  learn orienteering, basic survival skills and first aid and more. There will be various outdoor activities including kayaking and boating, fishing, archery and air rifles.  A special campfire by the lagoon as well as a boat trip to Muthurajawela to explore a deserted island would be some of the other experiences they would share.

Our desire is to create awareness of the environment and nature, and help form healthy habits and transfer basic life skills to the next generation; the whole experience to be shared by the entire family, helping them to bond better and  enjoy a stress-free holiday in a new environment.

Recently we hosted 2 families as a pilot project which was extremely successful. The families camped in tents, enjoyed dinner by the water with a campfire, spent hours fishing both day and night, competed against each other at air rifle shooting and archery and enjoyed an early morning boat trip to Muthurajawela Bird Sanctuary. They enjoyed seeing the bird and animal life, explored an island, ate wild wild and saw flying fish in the lagoon. We also organized some experiential learning and sports activities for the children. Everyone enjoyed the delicious food which is a staple of Sanctuary House.
